Pet telemedicine is veterinary care delivered remotely via video, audio, or digital communication platforms. At its best, it gives pet owners immediate access to licensed veterinary expertise without the barriers of geography, scheduling, cost, or clinic capacity — barriers that cause millions of American pets to go without appropriate veterinary care every year.
At TelaVets, pet telemedicine means a complete clinical consultation with a licensed DVM via encrypted, HIPAA-compliant video. It's regulated, it's standardized, and it's subject to the same professional accountability as in-person veterinary practice. Our vets are licensed professionals operating within a legal and ethical framework — not a technology loophole.
The scope of what pet telemedicine can address has expanded significantly as veterinarians have developed specific telehealth assessment competencies. Skin conditions, digestive disorders, behavioral issues, chronic condition management, prescription access, and urgent triage decisions are all effectively handled through video — representing the majority of all veterinary consultations conducted in a standard clinical setting.
TelaVets operates in full compliance with state veterinary telemedicine regulations. Our vets hold active state licenses and practice within established telehealth standards.
Our vets can reach clinical diagnoses through video assessment and history — not just general guidance. This is real telemedicine, not a triage service.
Available to pet owners in all 50 US states. Whether you're in a city with vet access on every corner or a rural area with limited options, TelaVets is available.
From prescription to your doorstep in one platform — no separate pharmacy trips, no prescription transfer delays.
Phone, tablet, or computer — any device with a camera works. No app download required, no account setup required before booking.
Transparent pricing for the full consultation. Significantly more affordable than in-person vet visits, with no hidden charges.
Addressing the majority of everyday pet health concerns
Pet telemedicine is most effective for non-emergency conditions — which represent the vast majority of veterinary visits. Here's what TelaVets handles well:
TelaVets believes that access to veterinary expertise should not be determined by proximity to a clinic, schedule flexibility, or the financial barrier of an in-person visit.
Sudden symptoms that need professional evaluation today — our vets assess urgency and provide immediate guidance.
Regular monitoring consultations for diabetes, arthritis, allergies, kidney disease, and hyperthyroidism.
First-time and refill prescriptions for a wide range of veterinary medications — issued same-day.
An independent clinical perspective on diagnoses, treatment plans, or major procedure recommendations.
Anxiety, aggression, compulsive behaviors, and training-related health questions addressed by experienced vets.
Not sure if your pet's situation is an emergency? Our vets help you make that call quickly and with expert guidance.
Select a same-day or next-available appointment online — no phone calls, no referrals. Weekend and holiday slots are available.
Join a secure, encrypted video call with an experienced TelaVets veterinarian. They'll visually assess your pet, review their history, and ask targeted diagnostic questions.
Get a clear diagnosis, a personalised care plan, and same-day prescriptions if needed — with medication delivered to your door next business day.
Use pet telemedicine for non-life-threatening conditions that still need professional assessment — skin issues, digestive problems, behavioral concerns, and ear infections.
Use pet telemedicine for prescription access when you already know what your pet needs — refills, ongoing medications, or preventatives.
Use pet telemedicine for second opinions before major procedures, expensive diagnostics, or significant treatment commitments.
Use pet telemedicine for follow-up care after in-person procedures — monitoring healing, adjusting medications, and answering questions.
Do NOT use pet telemedicine for emergencies — severe trauma, difficulty breathing, suspected poisoning, and sudden collapse require immediate in-person emergency care.

"Fantastic service! My dog gets extremely anxious at the vet, so having a virtual appointment from home was a game-changer. The vet was kind and helpful, and getting his medication delivered the next day made the whole process stress-free and more affordable than going to the clinic."

Licensed TelaVets vets treat a wide range of conditions online.
Pet telemedicine is veterinary care delivered remotely through digital platforms. At TelaVets, this means a licensed DVM conducting a complete clinical consultation via encrypted video call — including visual assessment, history review, diagnosis, treatment planning, and prescription issuance when clinically appropriate.
Yes. Veterinary telemedicine is regulated by state veterinary licensing boards. TelaVets vets hold active state licenses and comply with all applicable telemedicine regulations, including the VCPR requirement before prescribing medications.
Pet health apps typically provide general information, symptom checkers, or access to non-licensed advisors. Pet telemedicine, as practiced at TelaVets, connects you with licensed DVMs who can diagnose, prescribe, and create binding clinical treatment plans — a significantly higher standard of care.
Pet telemedicine complements in-person care — it doesn't replace it entirely. Annual wellness exams with physical diagnostics (bloodwork, X-rays, vaccinations) still need in-person visits. But the majority of acute and ongoing pet health concerns can be effectively managed through telemedicine.
Coverage varies by provider and plan. Many pet insurance providers are beginning to cover telemedicine consultations. We recommend checking with your provider — and we can provide documentation of the consultation for reimbursement claims.
TelaVets is available to pet owners in all 50 US states. Our vets are licensed in their respective states and practice within the telemedicine regulations applicable to each state.
